GE to exploit coal for power generation in Nasarawa

American energy giant, General Electric, is set to exploit the vast coal deposits in Nasarawa State for the purpose of generating electricity for home and industrial use, Leadership reports.
Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura who disclosed this in Lafia, the state capital, said talks with the leading energy outfit had reached an advanced stage and work is expected to commence as soon as issues bordering on solid minerals exploration are adequately tackled.
He said the facility, when fully operational, is expected to generate 200 megawatts of electricity,  adding that the initiative is in partnership with resident industries such as West Africa’s largest rice farm, Olam Nig. Ltd. He added that the move became necessary in view of the current challenges of electricity generation which depends majorly on gas and the need to diversify the economy through solid minerals exploration.
