NERC to sanction Discos from October over poor metering

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has directed Distribution Companies (Discos) to provide meters for maximum demand electricity customers before the end of 2016, Daily Trustreports.
The commission said that all Discos that fail to provide meters for all maximum demand customers on their networks not later than the last quarter of this year will be sanctioned. Maximum demand electricity customers are those connected on the 11Kv (high tension wire), with most of them having their dedicated transformer.
A statement issued by Dr Usman Abba Arabi, the public affairs head of the commission, yesterday, said the directive was sequel to the rising complaints from all categories of electricity customers over estimated bills they considered irreconcilable with the available power supply. It said Dr Anthony Akah, the acting chairman, said the Discos must meter all such customers under the Credit Advance Payment for Metering Initiative (CAPMI) or face sanctions.
